Canadian Independent Bookstore Day

Canadian Independent Bookstore Day (CIBD) is the annual day when readers, writers, and publishers celebrate beloved local bookstores from across the country. CIBD is also an opportunity for Canadians to champion indie bookstores. By shopping local on April 24, 2021, you advocated for independent businesses, supported a flourishing bookselling community, and invested in Canadian culture.

The past year has been challenging, but indies have continued to adapt and serve their communities. CIBD 2021 was our opportunity to say thank you.

Independent booksellers are an integral part of Canadian culture. They are deeply passionate about their work, provide best-in-class customer service, and serve as pillars of the community. They also play a vital role in the Canadian literary ecosystem. They champion Canadian creators at all career stages and help promote writers who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, and LGBTQ2S+.

Shopping local is good for our economy, the environment, and job creation. It also helps these dedicated, passionate entrepreneurs succeed.

Bookstores across the country participated in CIBD 2021 and hosted 80+ virtual activities.

To encourage books sales, CIBA ran an exciting contest with one-of-a-kind prizes.

To help promote CIBD 2021, booksellers, publishers, and industry partners had access to digital promotional assets.
