OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOOKSELLERS

Bookseller Members who would like to learn about product exclusives can click here to find our guide to bookseller opportunities. Additionally, we encourage bookstores to run special activities and initiatives in celebration of CIBD 2024. Find inspiration in using the button below.

The CIBA team is keen to boost the signal on bookstore activities. Please consider emailing Kayla, sharing your plans in the Bookseller Forum, and/or tagging @indiebookstoresCA in your CIBD 2024 posts on Facebook and Instagram so we can share what you have planned.

GRAPHICS

We have created a range of digital campaign assets that you can use for promotion—including both plug-and-play design files and templates that you can customize using free design software like Canva. (Click here for some tips and tricks!). We encourage you to use campaign colours and fonts for a cohesive look.

For in-store use: we have created digital assets that you can print and display including a campaign poster and contest infographic. With support from Friesens Corporation, we have also distributed promotional bookmarks to all those CIBA members who signed up. If you didn’t sign up but would like bookmarks, please email Kayla for availability.

For members within Francophone communities: we have also created French-language versions of our poster and contest infographic. Click here to download French assets.

Our general campaign poster is available in three sizes:

  • 8.5x11" – can be printed in-house
  • 11x17" – can be printed in-house
  • 24x36" – may require professional printing

For web and social media: we’ve created a variety graphics to help you promote the campaign including:

  • Save the Date graphics
  • General campaign graphics
  • NEW! Contest graphics
  • Social media headers
  • Web banners

These graphics are available in a range of dimensions for use on Facebook/Twitter, Instagram in-feed posts, and Instagram stories. Customizable templates can be used to promote your unique activities and specials related to CIBD 2024.

For design-savvy members: If you or someone on your team is a strong designer or you wish to create unique assets using campaign artwork, we encourage you to use our raw assets linked below.

The Google Drive folder lined below contains the full layered artwork, isolated illustration elements, portrait and landscape snapshots, fonts, and the CIBD wordmark.

SAMPLE SOCIAL POSTS

We have drafted some messaging for members to use or adapt. The sample messages are from a bookstore perspective but can be easily adapted to suit publishers and industry partners. We encourage you to include campaign graphics—found above—in all your posts.

Primary hashtag: #CIBD2024

Secondary hashtags: #IndieBookstoreDay #ShopLocal

CONTEST DETAILS

We have created a separate, public-facing landing page for our 2024 Contest for Book Lovers on indiebookstores.ca. The page includes details about contest eligibility and is where readers will find the link to enter on April 27.

Important: We will publicly launch the campaign on April 2. Please refrain from sharing contest information widely until after that date.

CONTEST QR CODE

We have created a QR code that leads to our contest page on indiebookstores.ca. The page includes details about contest eligibility and is where readers will find the link to enter on April 27. The short link is bit.ly/CIBD2024Contest.

Important: We will publicly launch the campaign on April 2. Please refrain from sharing contest information widely until after that date.

MEDIA OUTREACH

CIBA is working with the team at Zg Stories to pitch national media and media in key markets including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax. If you are a regional store, feel free to reach out to your local media outlets about using our media alert template and tips for pitching.

Last year, we hosted a special event for booksellers: Media Training for Booksellers: Interviews with Impact! during which Jamie Broadhurst, VP of Marketing at Raincoast Books, provided tips and tricks to look and sound good when being interviewed by the media. Members can view the event recording here.

Important: Please email Kayla if you receive interest from an outlet and/or an interview booked so we can support each other and avoid duplication.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

MPs and other elected officials across Canada are interested in our cause and willing to engage in CIBD 2024 activities when they hear directly from CIBA members—their constituents—which can create positive buzz around the campaign.

We have created a template letter that members can customize and send to their MPs and other elected officials to ensure they are aware of booksellers' plans and initiatives. To find your MP’s email address, click here and search using your postal code.
